Early Years

At Kingston Park we recognise the Early Years Foundation Stage as being one of the most important stages in a child'd life where the foundations for future learning and success are laid down. A child's early experiences should be happy, active, exciting, fun and secure. We aim to do all we can to help the children in our setting to have the best possible start to their school life.

We believe in the importance of play and that young children learn best when they are engaged in purposeful play and 'playful' activities. This is provided through a thoughtfully resourced environment offering opportunity for children to engage in a mixture of a child's own initiated learning and adult lead learning.

The Foundation Stage Curriculum covers seven areas of learning:

Prime Areas ~ These are usually developed first and are essential for future learning:

  • Communication & Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development,

Specific Areas ~ As children grow the prime areas help them to develop skills in:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

In the Foundation Stage all children have a 'Learning Journal' which celebrates each child's journey through the Foundation Stage. Parent's and Carer's are encouraged to contribute towards their child's journal by watching out for new things at home. 'WOW' sheets are sent home regularly and they are also available from Nursery and Reception classes to pick up at anytime.
